Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a wireless technology which
allows radio connections among small devices irrespective of device
or manufacturer - all without wires. Bluetooth like 802.11 is
a radio technology.
Bluetooth operates in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz ISM band of the
Radio Spectrum. Bluetooth can transfer data at approximately 720Kbps.
If a device, i.e. a laptop, PDA, phone or headset has a Bluetooth
chip inside, it can exchange information with any other Bluetooth
enabled device that it is associated with - that is within range.

The Bluetooth special interest group was formed in 1998 by Ericsson,
IBM, Intel, Nokia and Toshiba, it has since grown to include in
excess of 3000 companies worldwide. Simply Wireless is part of
the Bluetooth Special Interest Group or Bluetooth SIG.

Bluetooth Scenarios:
- Mobile phones
Synchronize your mobile phone with your laptop or PDA Share
the GPRS functionality with your laptop or PDA, allowing them
be online everywhere. Headsets allow cordless roaming.
- Local Area Networks
Bluetooth can be used to network smaller devices in an office
environment. Bluetooth allows spontaneous networking - enabling
workgroup to share files and data anywhere.
- Telephony
Bluetooth transports both voice and data traffic, meaning voice
over Bluetooth is possible.
- Personal devices
Devices such as PDA's, personal printers, personal faxes, digital
cameras and data projectors can interact with each other.
