1. Simply News
Welcome to the November edition of the Simply Wireless Newsletter. Exciting things have been happening in the wireless market over the last month, with certain new products being released in Australia. Wireless is really making an impact, with Farpoint Group's Craig Mathias saying that, "[Wireless Networking] is the only bright spot in the networking market".

Many corporations are realising the benefits of Wireless. With wireless bridging being one of the most popular uses of wireless technology. When two office locations are connected by Line of Sight (LOS), it is a simple and cost effective task to link them using Wireless hardware and long range antenna.

Distances from 50 metres to 23 Kilometres can be bridged, bringing substantial cost savings over regular means of connection such as ISDN line rental, or internet connections. Return on Investment for Bridging is as short as 6 months from implementation. Briding provides minimum distruption to Business Operations as opposed to regular cabling installations.

Simply Wireless are the experts at wireless bridging, we can construct bridges from 1 Megabit to 100 Megabit speeds and once again, no cables required. Also since Simply Wireless bridges are in the 2.4Ghz free to air space, as such there is no ongoing rental, spectrum leasing or data charges as are applicable with Microwave or Infrared bridging. Nokia D211 Wireless Anywhere
Nokia have released their new 2-in-1 GPRS/802.11b wireless card. The device accepts a SIM card and can access the GPRS network in Australia, as well as being compatible with the 802.11b Wi-Fi standard.

Simple to use software allows a Notebook, or Pocket PC user to be online wirelessly in the office or at a hot-spot with 802.11b Wi-Fi technology, but then automatically switches to the GPRS network when the Mobile worker requests information on the road away from the office. It is truly a great product and they are shipping like hot-cakes. Check it out on our website, or call 1300 888 166 for more information.

Nokia Release Bluetooth In-Car Hands Free
It has been a busy month for Nokia, not only have they released their extremely popular D211 wireless card, but they have also released their new Bluetooth Car Kit.

Compatible with Nokia's range of phones, 6210, 6310(i) and 8910, the Bluetooth Car Kit works the same way as a normal Car Hands Free, just without the Cables! The car kit can be attached to any standard car radio kit and provides audio through car speakers. With the discreet microphone mounted in the car, users have access to voice activated dialling, as well full hands free functionality.

The beauty of Bluetooth in a hands free kit means that, as soon as the car isnition is turned on and you are within 10 metre range of the vehicle, the car kit is automatically activated. Whilst you keep your phone in your pocket, or briefcase, all calls are diverted to your in-car speakers and microphone.

These kits are available now off our website. Or call 1300 888 166 to speak to a member of the team.

Symbol Versus Cisco - Wireless Competitors
The heat is on between Symbol Technologis, the market leader in wireless technology, and Cisco Systems the market leader in core networking technologies. Both manufacturers have recently released details on their next generation corporate wireless systems, and both companies have taken a totally different tact.

Cisco Systems have stayed true to their heritage and produced a corporate range of wireless access points that as Ron Seide, product manager at Cisco stated "push intelligence to the edge of the network". Incorporating a strong CPU and high end management software inside the indivual access point itself Cisco hopes to give added power to each wireless node. The new Cisco access points are set to retail at around $1199 when released in Australia.

Symbol Technologies who currently holds the majority of market share for 802.11 and Wi-Fi products has put forward a specification on their new wireless corporate product to be released in January next year. Symbol have adopted a unique stance developing wireless access "Ports" or "dumb access points" with no intelligence imbedded in the Wireless Port itself. A stark contrast to Cisco methodololgy.

Estimated to retail at a highly competitive $549 per Port when released in Australia. These Symbol ports are "radio only" and send all data received back to a central "Mobius" management switch, which will provide unified security and upradge management tools all from one location across an entire corporation. Symbol claims that their centralised architecture provides immense savings on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), as well as claiming their Radio only Ports will "future proof" a wireless corporation by allowing a simple upgrade path to future wireless standards (802.11g, 802.11i etc.) through free software/firmware upgrades on the centralised wireless switch, without buying more hardware.

Symbol's new design seems promising, but Cisco have rarely released a bad product on the market either. See what WirelessWeek and Computerworld, have to say about this exciting new wireless technology, or call Simply Wireless on 1300 888 166 for more information.
