Welcome – Simply Wireless News

|
New Faster Wireless 802.11g Standard Ratified
The new generation of Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11g™ standard
has been ratified allowing 802.11 to offer speeds of up to
54Mbps. This development supersedes the IEEE 802.11b™ standard,
the most widely used wireless local area network (WLAN) technology,
raising the data transfer rate from 11Mbps to 54Mbps whilst
providing backwards compatibility for existing IEEE 802.11b™
devices. The added transmission speed gives Wi-Fi the ability
to serve four to five times more users than previously possible
and also opens the possibility of using IEEE 802.11 networks
for more demanding applications such as multimedia and video

CeBIT Australia 2003 Success and Statistics

In May
this year, Simply Wireless built the CeBIT Australia 2003
Wireless Experience. The wireless network ran for 3 days
and provided free wireless internet access to CeBIT Australia
visitors. The Wireless LAN successfully spanned a massive
1.7Ha and supported capacity of up to 5000 people. We
had over 1000 connections to the network from the 18,000
visitors and offered connectivity to several of the exhibitor
stands with 802.11b. Click

Public Access Hot Spots on the rise in
Australia
Simply Wireless, together with Azure, continue
to rollout hotspots across Australia with over 80 locations
in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane commissioned, and underway.
OptusConnect recently opened access points in both the Brisbane
Airport and CBD and Telstra are offering free hotspot access
for the first month of their hotspot availability. We're also,
alongside SkyNet Global, looking to provide corporate staff
with wireless access from their favourite and most frequented
café's. Many top hotels have started offering their guests
wireless internet access and as of last month, The Australia
Technology Park provides conference delegates with permanent
wireless connectivity.

Simply Wireless presents at SchoolTech 2003
Held at Rafferty’s Resort, Lake Macquarie, SchoolTech2003 showcased innovative technology solutions for the education sector. Simply Wireless’s Network Architect Graham Robinson presented alongside industry leaders Microsoft, Hewlett Packard and Telstra on the benefits wireless can bring for schools, wireless security and the convergence of voice and data across wireless LANs. A hands-on lab was also available for teachers to experience Wi-Fi first hand. The conference was a great opportunity to discuss how IT can benefit education and Simply Wireless was pleased to be invited back to speak again at SchoolTech2004.
